Veliko Tarnovo is a city in north central Bulgaria and the administrative centre of Veliko Tarnovo Province.

Often referred to as the "City of the Tsars", Veliko Tarnovo is located on the Yantra River and is famous as the historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire, attracting many tourists with its unique architecture. 

大特尔诺沃，保加利亚三大古都之一。位于保加利亚中北部。历史上曾是保加利亚首都。十二世纪末，保加利亚贵族阿森兄弟在特尔诺沃组织武装脱离拜占庭帝国统治，创建新王国，并在此定都。1393年，奥斯曼帝国征服保加利亚，城市焚烧殆尽。特尔诺沃城地势险要，在中世纪仅次于君士坦丁堡，是巴尔干半岛的第二大城市。现保存有多处古迹和名胜。旧城区已辟为重点保护区、旅游地。古城坐落在查雷维茨山和特拉佩济察山两座山上，扬特拉河蜿蜒其间。两山都围以城墙。
